New Year’s eve 2020: Planning to party in Mumbai? Here’s a ‘cheat sheet’ for you

Here are fresh guidelines for Mumbaikars who are prepping up for the party for New Year’s eve

Mumbai: The Maharashtra government on Monday declared fresh set of guidelines for Mumbaikars as they gear up for the New Year parties amid COVID-19 crisis.

The government requested people to stay at home and restrict themselves from travelling out of their homes and welcome the New Year safely. Here are fresh guidelines for Mumbaikars who are prepping up for the party for New Year’s eve:

Night curfew already in place

Though there is no curfew on December 31 till evening, police will take strict action after 11 pm as state government has already declared night curfew in urban limits. Areas falling under municipal corporation including major cities are under curfew between 11 pm and 6 am till January 5.

No gatherings at public places

Every year, thousands of Mumbaikars throng, Marine Lines, Girgaon Chowpatty, Gateway of India, Juhu Chowpatty and other famous places in the city. The state government has directed people not to gather at main roads, seashores and gardens in huge numbers on December 31 evening. People should practice social distancing and wear masks in public places.

Also, those above 60 years of age and below 10 years should not step out of the houses, the Maharashtra government has stated.

No cultural programmes

The Maharashtra government in their order on Monday has stated that organising any religious or cultural rallies and programs is not permitted. Those visiting religious places on the first day of the year should maintain social distancing and follow protocols of COVID-19.

No firecrackers

The circular released by the government also read that there should be no bursting of firecrackers to avoid pollution.

Drones eyeing violators

The Mumbai Police have already started preparing for the New Year by implementing stringent measures in place to maintain social distancing at hotspots where people gather in big numbers. Drones will be used to check people’s movement and suspicious activity.
