Mumbai: It seems COVID-19 graph is not flattening its curve in Maharashtra as state on Wednesday reported as many as 9,855 new cases. With this, Maharashtra’s COVID-19 totla went up to 21,79,185 on Wednesday, according to department of health. This is the highest single-day jump since October 17, 2020.
Of the total new cases, Mumbai reported the highest number of cases. The city reported 1,121 new cases on Wednesday. Also, Thane adds 818 new cases of COVID-19 on Wednesday today, taking the infection count in the district to 2,66,910.
The total from the infection has gone up to 52,280 with 42 fatalities reported since Tuesday, pushing the state’s cases death rate to 2.40 per cent. Of these, 11,487 people lost their lives amid the infection in Mumbai. Also, 857 new cases were reported from Pune on Wednesday, taking the total to 2,11,256 while in Nagpur, Nashik, Aurangabad and Amravati 924, 593, 449 and 483 new cases were reported respectively.
As total of 3,60,500 people are currently home quarantined while 3,701 are undergoing institutional quarantine in the state, as per the Maharashtra’s health ministry dashboard. On the positive front, Maharashtra has witnessed a total of 2,043,349 recoveries from the contagion while the state’s recovery rate now stands at 93.77 per cent.
As cases in the state began to witness a surge from last month, Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray had cautioned of another lockdown if people fail to follow COVID-19 norms.
