TRP fraud: Mumbai Police busts racket of three television channels; two arrested

Republic TV, three other news channels under probe as Mumbai Police claims to have busted fake TRP scam

Mumbai: Mumbai Police Commissioner Param Bir Singh in a press conference on Thursday, revealed that the city police is probing a TRP scandal where news channels manipulated BARC ratings to spread misinformation about the cops.

He said, "TV advertising industry is worth 30,000-40,000 crore. The rates are definite on the basis of TRP. Even if minor changes are made in TRP, it affects advertising.”

Param Bir Singh told media persons that the city police is investigating a scam involving manipulation of TRPs. He also informed that Republic Channel’s accounts are being scrutinised and they will be summoned soon. He added that two persons are arrested in this regard.

He added owners of Marathi channels Fakt Marathi and Box Cinema have been arrested under IPC 409 and 420.
