Mumbai: It’s been years, Maharashtra and Karnataka are battling at the Supreme Court over the issue of Belgaum.

Now in a recent development, Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister Laxman Savadi wants Mumbai to be made part of Karnataka and requested the central government to declare it a Union Territory. The Deputy CM hit back at Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray for scraping up the border issue with a same demand.

Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray earlier accused the Karnataka of purposely changing the name of the disputed Belagavi district to 'Belgaum’.

Savadi said, "The people of this region, as well as I, demand that Mumbai should be included in Karnataka. I demand the Central government to declare Mumbai as a Union Territory until then."

The Karnataka deputy chief minister's statement comes after Maharashtra CM Uddhav Thackeray said his government is dedicated to incorporating into the state the areas of Karnataka, including Belgaum, Karwar, Nipani, where Marathi-speaking people are in huge numbers. Maharashtra claims certain areas, such as Belagavi, Nippani and Karwar which are part of Karnataka.

However, after the Deputy CM of Karnataka demanded Mumbai to be part of Karnataka, this is how some people reacted on Twitter.
