Mumbai: Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) President, Sharad Pawar and his daughter MP Supriya Sule on Monday received the jab of COVID-19 vaccine in Mumbai. The duo received the jab at JJ Hospital in Byculla.

The NCP Chief on his Twitter handle said, “I took my first dose of the #COVID19Vaccine in Sir J. J. Hospital, Mumbai today. To strengthen the Vaccination Drive, I appeal to all those who are eligible to take vaccine and join the fight against corona virus.”

India, which has reported the highest number of Covid-19 cases in the world after the USA, has so far inoculated more than 12 million health and front-line workers.

Earlier in the day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi was the first among the top leaders take a COVID-19 vaccine jab, as nationwide vaccination of persons above 60 and those over 45 with illnesses started. Apart from PM Modi, Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu also declared that he received the first dose of vaccine against COVID-19 at a government hospital in Chennai.

Several leaders around the country namely Union Minister of State (Ind Charge) for Development of North Eastern Region, Dr Jitendra Singh, Bihar CM Nitish Kumar, Odisha CM Naveen Patnaik also received the jabs on Monday.
