MahaTransco Uses Drones to Inspect Chandrapur to Padgha Transmission Line

Salil Urunkar

Pune: MahaTransco (Maharashtra State Electricity Transmission Company) has begun using drones to inspect and monitor the Chandrapur to Padgha transmission line, which passes through Junnar taluka via the Naneghat route.

This new initiative is aimed at enhancing the safety and operational efficiency of the high-voltage transmission towers in the area. The drone patrolling will be conducted regularly, with flights scheduled between 8:30 AM and 5:30 PM.

According to Junnar Police Inspector Kiran Avchar, MahaTransco has officially notified the local police about the commencement of these operations, ensuring that all regulatory guidelines for drone use are strictly followed.

This advanced technology will allow for detailed surveillance of the transmission towers without causing any inconvenience to local residents, as noted by Additional Executive Engineer Jitendra Kharade in his communication with the police.

The drones will help detect technical faults in the state's only high-voltage direct current (HVDC) transmission line, which operates at a capacity of 500 kV and transmits 1,500 MW of electricity.

This drone initiative will not only expedite the detection of faults but also ensure timely repairs to maintain uninterrupted power transmission.

The use of drones marks a significant advancement in the maintenance of critical infrastructure, offering a more efficient and safer way to monitor and maintain transmission lines.

The local authorities and MahaTransco have reassured residents that these operations will be carried out with minimal disruption to daily life and with strict adherence to safety protocols.
