MaHER Urges Vigilance as Scammers Exploit Name for Marriage Scams

Salil Urunkar

Pune: The MaHER organization has issued a public alert regarding individuals fraudulently using its name to extort money by falsely promising to arrange marriages for girls under its care.

The organization clarified that it has not authorized anyone to conduct such activities and is not involved in any financial transactions related to marriage arrangements.

MaHER organization operating in Shirur Taluka has been supporting orphaned children and helping them become self-reliant. The organization has played a key role in arranging the marriages of 204 girls brought up by MaHER, contributing to their successful family lives.

However, some individuals are now exploiting the trust placed in the organization by offering fraudulent marriage services for large sums of money.

According to several complaints received by MaHER, these fraudulent activities are mostly conducted via phone, and money is collected through online transactions. MaHER has informed the Shikrapur police about these activities, warning the public to remain vigilant.

Founder of MaHER, Lucy Kurien, and Chairperson, Hirabegum Mulla, have strongly condemned the fraudulent activities, emphasizing that the organization does not engage in any financial dealings for marriage arrangements.

They have urged the public to report such cases to both the organization and the police, assuring that MaHER will work closely with law enforcement to bring the culprits to justice.

Both MaHER and the Shikrapur police have encouraged people to immediately report any individuals claiming to arrange marriages through MaHER and demanding money.

The public is advised to file complaints with the nearest police station and inform MaHER's representative, Ramesh Choudhary, who is overseeing this issue.

Shikrapur Police Inspector, Deepratan Gaikwad, assured that the police will take stringent action against any individuals misusing MaHER’s name for fraud.
