The much-anticipated ‘Sakal Karandak’ intercollegiate one-act play competition is all set to provide a remarkable platform for young talent from across Maharashtra.

Selected performers will receive the golden opportunity to enter the world of films, as veteran writer-director-actor Mahesh Manjrekar will personally scout and select some of the most promising artists from the competition.

Scheduled to take place in November, this prestigious competition has established itself as a breeding ground for budding student actors. The event will be conducted in three stages: the preliminary round, regional finals, and the grand finale.

The competition will be held in six regional centers: Nashik, Pune, Mumbai, Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Kolhapur, and Nagpur.

The preliminary round will begin on November 8, with winners moving on to the regional finals and the top teams competing in the grand finale. The final event is scheduled for December 1 in Pune, where the best team will be crowned the winner of the ‘Sakal Karandak’ trophy.

The ‘Sakal Karandak’ competition is recognized for nurturing talent from the grassroots level, with students from various colleges across Maharashtra taking part.

“Many exceptional artists emerge from such competitions, and they just need the right platform and guidance. This is exactly what ‘Sakal Karandak’ offers.

It is one of the most prestigious events in the state, and we aim to identify and provide further opportunities for promising artists, including film roles,” Mahesh Manjrekar commented.

The competition has already garnered the attention of Maharashtra’s theater community. Chandrakant Kulkarni, a veteran director, is serving as the cultural ambassador for the event, and Ashwamedh Theaters has offered its support.

The top two winning plays will have the chance to be professionally staged by ‘Sakal’ after the competition.
