Pune: In a tragic incident, a man and a woman ended their lives by jumping in front of a train on the tracks near platform number four of Pune Railway Station on Tuesday (October 22) morning.

The incident, which took place around 7:30 AM, prompted a quick response from railway police, who sent the bodies to Sassoon Hospital for further procedures.

The deceased have been identified through an Aadhaar card found at the scene. The man, Hirgappa Sharanappa Jamadar (50), and the woman, Soumyashwari Siddhaling Madde (27), were residents of Madgunki, Zalki Budruk, in Kalaburagi district, Karnataka. Both were staying in Kurduwadi at the time of the incident.

According to Senior Police Inspector Pramod Khopikar, Hirgappa had called his sister, who resides in Pune, informing her of his arrival in the city. He was employed in construction work.

Hirgappa is survived by his wife and two children. Initial police investigations suggest that Soumyashwari had passed away a few years ago. The motive behind their joint suicide is currently being probed by the authorities.

Earlier in July, a young man who had gone missing from Pimpri-Chinchwad was rescued by police in Sangli after he attempted to end his life by jumping in front of a train.

The young man, Kondiram Arjun Jadhav, 25, originally from Beed, was found in an intoxicated state at Sangli Railway Station. Quick action by the Vishrambag Police prevented the tragedy.
