Pune: A 55-year-old man has been booked by the Alankar Police after brutally assaulting his 50-year-old wife, whom he suspected of infidelity. The attack, which occurred on Tuesday morning in the Gosavi Wasti area of Kothrud, left the woman with severe injuries, including fractures in both hands and a head wound requiring stitches.

According to reports, the husband had a longstanding pattern of suspecting his wife’s character and frequently subjected her to verbal and physical abuse. On the morning of the incident, an old argument escalated when the husband, in a fit of rage, accused his wife again and proceeded to assault her with a wooden stick.

The assault resulted in the wife sustaining serious injuries, including fractures in both her hands, a deep cut on her head, and an injury to her right knee.

The wife managed to approach the Alankar Police Station and filed a formal complaint against her husband. The authorities registered a case against the accused under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.

The case is now under investigation, led by Police Sub-Inspector Gaikwad. The police are focusing on the history of domestic violence in the couple's relationship, as the wife had allegedly been a victim of repeated abuse over character suspicions. The victim is currently receiving medical treatment for her injuries.

This incident has brought to light the serious issue of domestic violence, particularly in older age groups where such cases often go unreported due to societal pressures.

The authorities have urged victims of domestic violence to come forward and report any abuse without fear of reprisal.
