Pune: A sum of approximately ₹13 lakh was seized by a static surveillance team near the Grape Research Center near Manjari.

The cash was found inside a vehicle during a routine check on the Pune-Solapur highway. The incident took place as part of a surveillance operation conducted to monitor vehicle movements in the region.

According to officials, the surveillance team stopped a Creta vehicle for inspection and found ₹12,99,500 in cash.

The occupant of the vehicle, identified as Wasiulla Waliulla Khan, was questioned about the source of the cash. Khan claimed that the money was related to his scrap business.

However, when asked to provide supporting documents, he was unable to furnish any proof to substantiate his claim.

Due to the lack of documentation, the surveillance team seized the cash and filed an official report regarding the incident.

The amount has since been handed over to the income tax department for further investigation. The local Hadapsar police have been tasked with conducting additional inquiries into the matter.

Earlier, five crore rupees seized by rural police during a routine vehicle inspection at Khed Shivapur toll plaza on the Mumbai-Bengaluru bypass on Monday (October 21) evening, were handed over to the Income Tax Department for further investigation.

The cash, found in a car, was counted in the presence of witnesses. The Election Commission, along with the police and tax authorities, will be probing the source and purpose of the money.
