Pune: Prof. Laxman Hake, a prominent leader in the OBC reservation movement, has strongly asserted that achieving Maratha reservation through the OBC category is impossible. He criticized the illegal distribution of certificates under the OBC category, calling it unconstitutional and an attempt to steal social reservations.

Speaking at a discussion organized by the Pune Union of Working Journalists (PUWJ), Hake highlighted the Supreme Court's definition of social backwardness and argued that the issue of Kunbi certificates arises from this definition.

He firmly stated that Maratha reservation through the OBC category is unachievable. PUWJ president Pandurang Sandbhor, and office bearer Harsh Dudhe were present on the dais.

Hake also criticized the tactics used to pressure the OBC community, including making films, which he labeled as unconstitutional. He emphasized that the OBC reservations granted by the constitution are irrevocable.

Reflecting on his political journey, Hake mentioned his request for candidacy from senior leader Sharad Pawar, who had initially agreed.

Despite receiving only five thousand votes, Hake drew parallels to the electoral defeats of Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar and Mahatma Jotiba Phule, stressing his commitment to advocating for policies in Parliament despite lacking resources.

Hake concluded by pointing out the responsibility of state leaders and intellectuals in maintaining social justice policies and urged support for those who responsibly advocate for their communities.

"Leaders in the state should not determine policies of social justice based on personal or party gain. Representatives and intellectuals are responsible for the worsening atmosphere in the state as they do not take a stand on the issue of reservations.

Anyone who responsibly presents their stand should be supported. For this reason, I supported Chagan Bhujbal. He took a stand on OBC rights and is now being portrayed as a villain," Hake stated.
