Medical Negligence: Four-Year-Old Girl Dies from Snakebite

Pune: A four-year-old girl from Bhoirwadi, Pimpalgaon Joga, Junnar, died from a snakebite. The girl's family has accused the doctors at Otur Primary Health Center of negligence, claiming that timely treatment could have saved her life.

The girl, identified as Afroz Amir Shaikh, was bitten by a venomous snake while sleeping at her grandfather's house. Despite rushing her to the health center, the family alleges that they faced locked doors and delayed medical attention.

After some time, a hospital staff member opened the door. The family informed the nurse that the girl had been bitten by a snake. The nurse then called Dr. Vishal Dumbre, who advised over the phone to take the girl to Narayangaon for further treatment due to the severity of the snakebite. Unfortunately, the girl was declared dead upon arrival at Narayangaon.

The girl's family complained that Dr. Vishal Dumbre did not come to the hospital to examine her. They believe that she could have been saved if timely treatment had been provided and have demanded action against the doctor.

Former Zilla Parishad member and tribal leader Devaram Lande visited the Otur Primary Health Center to meet the girl’s relatives. He questioned the medical officer at Otur about the delay in providing treatment and filed a complaint with higher authorities.

MNS taluka president Tanaji Tambe demanded an investigation into the incident and action against those responsible. He also called for the immediate operation of the Otur Rural Hospital to prevent such incidents in the future.

Dr. Vishal Dumbre stated that he received a call from the hospital at 1:24 AM, informing him that a four-year-old girl from Pimpalgaon Joga had been bitten by a snake and was vomiting. Due to the lack of ventilator facilities at the health center, he advised the relatives over the phone to take her to a better-equipped facility.

By the time he arrived at the hospital, the relatives had already taken the girl to Narayangaon.
