Minor’s Essay After Porsche Crash: "Follow Traffic Rules, Help Victims"

Pune: The minor involved in the Porsche car accident in Kalyaninagar on May 19 has submitted an essay on the importance of following traffic rules, as mandated by the Juvenile Justice Board. The essay highlighted why adhering to traffic laws is essential and its significance for societal safety.

The accident, which occurred at midnight, resulted in the death of a young computer engineer and his companion. The minor, son of construction businessman Vishal Agarwal, was apprehended and a case was registered at Yerawada Police Station.

He was initially granted bail on the condition that he submit a 300-word essay on traffic issues, work with traffic police, and seek guidance from de-addiction experts. This decision faced widespread criticism.

The Pune Police subsequently appealed the decision in the Sessions Court, which led to the cancellation of the minor’s bail and his placement in a juvenile correctional facility. The minor spent a month there.

Challenging the police's action of detaining the minor, his aunt, Pooja Jain, filed a petition in the Bombay High Court. Justice Bharati Dongre and Justice Manjusha Deshpande ordered the minor's release from the correctional facility while maintaining the original bail conditions set by the Juvenile Justice Board.

The court directed that after submitting the essay, the minor must spend fifteen days assisting traffic police with traffic management duties.

What Did the Essay Contain?

In his essay, the minor expressed his fear and panic after the accident, leading him to contemplate fleeing the scene. He advised against such actions, urging people to approach the nearest police station and surrender instead of running away, as it could result in severe consequences. He emphasized the importance of helping the victims to the best of one’s ability.
