Pune: A medical officer and an ASHA worker from the government’s 108 ambulance service helped deliver a baby girl inside the ambulance, saving the lives of both the newborn and her mother.

The incident took place early Tuesday (September 24) morning when a pregnant woman from Penjalwadi village, Bhor taluka, needed immediate medical attention.

At 5:38 a.m., the 108 emergency service received a call to transport the pregnant woman, Kajal Rangrao Chavan, to the nearest hospital.

The ambulance, stationed 22 kilometers away at the sub-district hospital in Bhor city, reached the village in just 20 minutes, thanks to the quick response of driver Sachin Raut and medical officer Dr. Milind Kamble.

Despite challenging road conditions due to heavy rain, the team managed to transport the woman toward the Bhongavali Primary Health Center. However, severe labor pains forced them to halt the vehicle en route.

Dr. Kamble, with the assistance of ASHA worker Meena Chavan, performed a successful delivery inside the ambulance at 6:14 a.m., bringing a healthy baby girl into the world.

Both the mother and the baby were reported to be in good health following the delivery. After the successful birth, they were taken to Bhongavali Primary Health Center for further care.

The woman’s family and local residents expressed their gratitude and praised the efforts of the ambulance team. This remarkable incident highlights the importance of swift medical intervention in rural areas, where access to healthcare facilities can be delayed due to poor infrastructure and weather conditions.
