Pune: A motorcyclist was killed in a tragic hit-and-run accident on the old Old Mumbai-Pune road in the Bopodi area on Saturday (August 17) evening.
The victim, identified as 35-year-old Ramesh Bugya Lawudya, a resident of Shastrinagar, Pimpri-Chinchwad, was struck by a speeding vehicle in front of Gopi Chawl. The driver of the vehicle fled the scene without stopping.
Ramesh's brother, Ganesh Lawudya, reported the incident to the Khadki police. According to the police, Ramesh was on his way when the accident occurred.
Severely injured, he succumbed to his injuries before medical assistance could reach him. A case has been registered against the unidentified driver, and Assistant Police Inspector Deshmukh is leading the investigation.
In another crime incident, a 60-year-old man was arrested on Saturday evening for attempting to murder a young man over a year-old Diwali dispute.
The accused, Satish Murlidhar Dhole, allegedly tried to stab 23-year-old Kartikesh Dashrath Rane with a knife outside a puja material shop near the Shani Temple in Lower Indiranagar, Kondhwa.
According to the Bibwewadi police, the two men live in the same housing society. The conflict between them dates back to a minor argument in 2023 during Diwali when Dhole visited Rane's shop.
On Saturday, as the temple was crowded with devotees, Dhole confronted Rane, covered his mouth, and attempted to stab him while threatening to kill him.
Rane managed to fend off the attack, suffering a minor injury to his left thumb in the process. Dhole was immediately apprehended at the scene. Police Sub-Inspector Yewle is investigating the incident.
