Pune: Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL / Mahavitaran), the state electricity distribution company, has provided significant savings to consumers across Western Maharashtra over the past six months.

A total of 13,225,296 electricity consumers in the region have saved a collective ₹277.327 crore by taking advantage of a 1% discount offered for prompt bill payments.

Consumers who pay their electricity bills within seven days of the bill's issue date receive a 1% discount, which is automatically calculated and reflected in their bills. On average, 2,204,000 consumers save ₹46.221 crore each month through this discount.

The deadline for prompt payment is clearly indicated on the bills, and customers can make payments using multiple options, including Mahavitaran's official mobile app, website, credit and debit cards, UPI, BHIM, internet banking, and mobile wallets.

Additionally, consumers who use these digital payment methods can avail an extra discount of 0.25% (capped at ₹500). Furthermore, Mahavitaran’s "Go-Green" initiative offers a ₹10 discount for consumers opting to receive their bills electronically, thereby reducing paper usage. However, for consumers who fail to make their payments by the due date, a late fee of 1.25% is charged.

The Pune Regional Division has seen substantial savings for its consumers. In Pune district alone, 1,352,300 consumers save ₹30.674 million every month by paying their bills on time.

Satara district’s 230,000 consumers save ₹2.529 million, while Solapur district’s 161,398 consumers save ₹2.749 million monthly. Kolhapur district’s 297,910 consumers save ₹7.819 million, and Sangli district’s 162,560 consumers save ₹2.447 million each month.

Mahavitaran has also implemented an SMS notification service, providing free updates to consumers who have registered their mobile numbers with their electricity accounts.

These messages include bill amounts, due dates, and other important details. Additionally, consumers who register their email addresses with Mahavitaran receive their monthly electricity bills via email for free.

"Consumers have the opportunity to save money by paying their bills on time. Mahavitaran is also offering additional discounts for online payments and through the Go-Green initiative, encouraging eco-friendly practices," said Bhujang Khandare, Director of Mahavitaran's Pune Regional Division.
