Pune: Western Maharashtra has witnessed a remarkable shift towards paperless electricity billing, with 194,898 environmentally conscious consumers opting out of printed bills entirely.

This movement has made the paperless billing system the most favored choice in the state, thanks to Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL /Mahavitaran) ‘Go Green’ initiative, which has enabled these customers to save a staggering ₹23,387,760 annually.

The ‘Go Green’ program encourages consumers to switch from printed electricity bills to digital notifications via e-mail and SMS. In return for this eco-friendly choice, participants receive a monthly discount of ₹10 on their bills, leading to an annual saving of ₹120 per customer.

This initiative has successfully attracted a diverse customer base, with a total of 487,113 electricity consumers across the state participating in the scheme. Notably, Western Maharashtra contributes to 40% of this figure, with the Pune division alone seeing 130,761 customers actively participating.

The transition to the ‘Go Green’ scheme not only reflects modern lifestyle choices but also plays a critical role in environmental protection efforts. Despite the cessation of printed bills, Mahavitaran ensures that customers can access their current and past bill details through its user-friendly mobile app and website.

As soon as a bill is generated, it is sent to the ‘Go Green’ participants via e-mail, along with SMS notifications, simplifying the payment process and encouraging timely payments.

Bhujang Khandare, Pune Regional Director, has extended a call to all low-tension customers to join the ‘Go Green’ initiative. Within the Pune district, the scheme has already yielded impressive results, benefiting 139,822 customers with annual savings amounting to ₹167,786,640.

Additionally, customers in other districts are also reaping the benefits: Satara with savings of ₹1,535,520, Solapur at ₹1,658,280, Kolhapur enjoying ₹2,101,800, and Sangli seeing savings of ₹1,313,520.

For those participating in the ‘Go Green’ scheme who may still require printed bills, Mahavitaran offers the option to save the monthly bills received via e-mail in a soft copy format.

Moreover, the company’s website provides access to current bills and the previous 11 months’ bills in their original form, allowing customers the flexibility to download or print them in color as needed. Consumers can easily enroll in the ‘Go Green’ option through the Mahavitaran mobile app or visit the website www.mahadiscom.in.
