Pune: Two individuals sustained serious injuries after a 22 kV high-voltage power line belonging to the Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL) snapped and fell on them while they were traveling on a motorcycle on Saturday (August 31) morning.

The incident occurred at approximately 11:15 AM in front of the KV Building on the road leading from Maske Vasti to Mukai Chowk in Ravet village.

The victims, identified as Rishabh Deepak Pophale (29) from Bhugaon in Mulshi Taluka and Ramhari Dharma Sathe (51) from Lohgaon, were on their way to work when the accident occurred.

According to the police, as Rishabh and Ramhari were heading towards Mukai Chowk on their motorcycle, the power line suddenly broke and fell on Rishabh, resulting in both men receiving severe electric shocks. The impact left them seriously injured, necessitating immediate medical attention.

Following the incident, a complaint was lodged at the Ravet Police Station by Adv. Deepak Sitaram Pofale (52), Rishabh's father and a resident of Bhugaon.

Based on the complaint, the police have filed a case against the relevant officials and employees of the Dehu Road Section of MSEDCL. The charges include negligence and failure to maintain the electrical infrastructure properly, which is alleged to have directly caused the incident.

Speaking to the media, a police spokesperson stated that the investigation led by Sub-Inspector Chate is underway to determine the exact sequence of events and ascertain the accountability of those involved.

The authorities are scrutinizing maintenance records and safety protocols followed by MSEDCL's Dehu Road Section to identify lapses that might have contributed to this dangerous incident.
