Pune: The state government's new initiative, the Mukhyamantri Majhi Ladki Bahin Yojana, aimed at promoting economic self-reliance among women, has commenced its application process in Pune, Pimpri-Chinchwad, and the rural areas of the district from Monday (July 1).
State Minister of Rural Development and Panchayati Raj, Girish Mahajan, officially launched the application acceptance at the Divisional Commissioner’s office.
Pune district is leading the state in rolling out this scheme, starting the application process from July 1. As part of the launch, the applications of two women, Asha Patond and Snehalata Yanbhar, were accepted symbolically.
The inauguration event saw the presence of key officials, including Divisional Commissioner Dr. Chandrakant Pulkundwar, CEO of Pune Zilla Parishad Santosh Patil, Deputy Commissioner Varsha Ladda, Vijay Mulik, and Additional CEO Chandrakant Waghmare.
As the Maharashtra Assembly election approaches later this year, Deputy Chief Minister and state finance minister Ajit Pawar presented the state Budget on Friday (June 28).
Among the key announcements was the Mukhyamantri Majhi Ladki Bahin Scheme, a new financial assistance program aimed at supporting women across the state. With this, Maharashtra joined the list of states in India which has a similar monetary assistance scheme for women.
The Mukhyamantri Majhi Ladki Bahin Yojana is designed for women aged 21 to 60 with an annual family income of less than 2.5 lakhs. Eligible women will receive Rs. 1,500 per month directly deposited into their bank accounts.
Minister Mahajan emphasized the state government’s commitment to welfare schemes and expressed confidence that this new initiative will benefit many eligible women.
Applications Open Until July 15
The implementation of the Mukhyamantri Majhi Ladki Bahin Yojana, which started on July 1, 2024, aims at the economic and social upliftment of women.
On its first day, the Pune Zilla Parishad received applications from 100 eligible women. Women meeting the eligibility criteria can submit their applications until July 15.
