Mumbai: In a major crackdown on illegal drug manufacturing, the Anti-Narcotics Cell (ANC) of Mumbai Police has raided a mephedrone (MD) manufacturing factory operating on the Badlapur-Karjat Road near Vangani.
The raid resulted in the arrest of four individuals involved in the operation. Among those arrested is a production manager with a background in chemistry who was responsible for overseeing the MD production.
The investigation began on September 11, when the ANC’s Ghatkopar unit, during routine patrolling, apprehended two drug peddlers in the Mankhurd area who were found selling MD.
The police seized 106 grams of the drug from the duo. During their interrogation, they revealed the identity of a third accomplice, who was subsequently tracked down and arrested.
Further questioning of the third accused led the police to the MD manufacturing factory located on the Badlapur-Karjat Road in Vangani.
Acting on this intelligence, the ANC team conducted a raid on the factory, seizing 206 kilograms of various chemicals used for drug production and 1.580 kilograms of MD-like white powder.
In addition, the fourth accused, who was supervising the factory’s operations, was also arrested.
This individual, a trained chemist working as a production manager at a company in Badlapur, reportedly turned to drug production for quick financial gains, according to preliminary investigations. The police are continuing their probe to uncover further details regarding the drug network.
