Mundhwa-Kharadi Road: Municipal Cleaner Fatally Hit by Speeding Car

Pune: A municipal contract worker lost her life in a tragic road accident on the Mundhwa-Kharadi road on Monday (October 21) morning.

The cleaner, identified as Chhaya Mangesh Pedharkar (39), was struck by a speeding car while working on the footpath. The incident occurred around 11 AM, and the Chandan Nagar police have since arrested the driver, Rajendra Dnyanoba Dhumal (52), a resident of Raikar Mala, Dhayari.

According to the police, Pedharkar was working with her colleague, Jyoti Lokhande (who filed the complaint), clearing grass from the roadside in Kharadi.

While they were engaged in their duties, a fast-moving car hit Pedharkar, causing critical injuries. Tragically, she succumbed to her injuries before receiving medical treatment.

Upon learning of the accident, Chandan Nagar police officers rushed to the scene. The driver of the vehicle, Dhumal, was arrested at the site. Assistant Police Inspector Mubarak Sheikh is leading the investigation into the incident.

On October 10, a young woman lost both her legs after being hit by a speeding dumper in Wagholi.

The woman, identified as 23-year-old Manisha Balasaheb Mandalik, was crossing the Pune-Nagar Highway when the accident happened. The wheels of the vehicle ran over her legs, leaving her seriously injured. MLA Ashok Pawar, who was passing by the scene, immediately rushed her to the hospital in his car.

Manisha had tried to signal the dumper to stop while crossing the road, but the vehicle did not slow down, resulting in the tragic accident.
