Mumbai: In a surprising incident, an unattended bag containing ₹20 lakh in cash was discovered in the general compartment of a CSMT-bound local train on Sunday (September 22) night.

The bag was spotted by a vigilant passenger shortly after the train left Asangaon station around 9:57 PM. The passenger promptly alerted the Kalyan railway police, who seized the bag upon the train's arrival at Kalyan station.

After taking custody of the suspicious bag, railway police conducted a thorough inspection in the presence of two witnesses. To their astonishment, the bag contained ₹20 lakh in cash along with a box of medicines.

The police are currently trying to trace the rightful owner of the bag, as no one has come forward to claim it.

Deputy Inspector Khetmali, under the guidance of Senior Inspector Pandhari Kande of the Kalyan Railway Police, is leading the investigation.

Authorities are scrutinizing CCTV footage and questioning potential witnesses in an effort to uncover more details about how the bag ended up in the compartment.

This discovery has raised concerns about the security of passengers and belongings on local trains, with officials urging commuters to remain vigilant and report any suspicious items immediately.

Meanwhile, the cash has been deposited with the railway police, and further investigations are ongoing.
