Mumbai: In a shocking incident, an assistant professor at Nair Hospital has been suspended for allegedly sexually harassing a student. The incident comes close on the heels of the Kolkata rape and murder case. The hospital is run by the Municipal Corporation of Greater Mumbai.

The Municipal Corporation has stated that further action will be taken against the suspended assistant professor after a thorough investigation and receipt of the inquiry committee's report.

The incident occurred six months ago in March when the assistant professor called the student, who is also an athlete, to his cabin and inquired about her game.

According to media reports, the assistant professor called the student to his cabin again a few days later. He allegedly touched her neck and ear inappropriately in the cabin.

The student claimed that the professor touched her under the pretext of examining the swollen lymph nodes in her nose. He also asked her to remove her apron and placed his hand on her shoulder. Additionally, he made comments about the color of her lips.

Considering the seriousness of the incident and the preliminary findings of the inquiry, Dr. Neela Andrade, head of the Medical Education Department of the Municipal Corporation of Greater Mumbai, had decided to transfer the doctor from Nair Hospital to KEM Hospital.

However, the administration suspended the assistant professor on Saturday (September 14). Further action will be taken based on the findings of the inquiry committee at the headquarters level, the administration clarified.
