Pune: Bibwewadi Police arrested Mahesh Kumbhar, a resident of Panchavati, Nashik, for the brutal murder of his girlfriend's four-year-old son, Vedansh Veerbhadra Kale.

The incident occurred after the boy vomited, which enraged Kumbhar, leading him to assault the child fatally.

The victim, Vedansh, was initially brought to Kamala Nehru Hospital in Pune's Mangalwar Peth by his mother, Pallavi, who claimed that her son had fallen off the bed and lost consciousness.

However, after Vedansh passed away on September 2, the post-mortem report revealed a different story. Medical experts confirmed that Vedansh’s death resulted from severe assault injuries, contradicting the mother's initial statement.

Subsequent investigations by Senior Police Inspector Mangal Modhave and his team from Bibwewadi Police Station uncovered the troubling details. Pallavi, who had been living in Bibwewadi for the past three months, was in a relationship with Kumbhar.

On September 1, Pallavi, along with her son, visited Kumbhar's residence in Nashik. After dinner, Vedansh vomited, triggering Kumbhar’s violent reaction. He brutally beat Vedansh with a broomstick, leading to the child losing consciousness.

Following the assault, Kumbhar and Pallavi first took Vedansh to the Civil Hospital in Nashik. Realizing the severity of the child's condition, they then transferred him to Kamala Nehru Hospital in Pune, where he later succumbed to his injuries.

The Bibwewadi Police acted swiftly to arrest Kumbhar, who now faces charges of murder. The case has been handed over to Panchavati Police Station in Nashik for further investigation. The arrest was made under the supervision of Deputy Commissioner of Police R. Raja.
