The weather department has issued a red-alert for the southern areas of Tamil Nadu and Kerala in the wake of the brewing storm and said that these areas are expected to witness heavy to very heavy rainfall.

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), a well-marked low pressure area over the Bay of Bengal is very likely to concentrate into a depression and bring moderate to heavy and extremely heavy rains over Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Kerala and Andhra Pradesh for next four days.

The low pressure area over south Andaman sea and attached areas of southeast Bay of Bengal has structured into a well-marked low pressure area, the Regional Meteorological Centre informed.
