COVID flattening its curve: India records lowest COVID numbers since June

India has been witnessing less than 20,000 daily new cases for the past 12 days.

In a big sigh of relief, India on Tuesday reported 10,064 new COVID-19 cases in the past 24 hours, the lowest single-day spike from June.

With this the toll of coronavirus cases now stands at 1,05,81,837, according to the Union Health Ministry. India had reported over 10,000 cases on June 6,2020 for the first time and within that week it had drifted around the same number before a slow increase that took the daily figures close to a lakh cases in month of September.

The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare stated that 137 fatalities were recorded in the past 24 hours taking the total to 1,52,556.

India has been witnessing less than 20,000 daily new cases for the past 12 days. Also, the daily toll has gone down below 300-mark for the last 25 days.

As per the data from the Health Ministry, 1,02,28,753 have recovered from the novel virus so far and currently there are 2,00,528 active cases. The recovery rate of India now stands at 96.59 per cent, while the death rate is 1.44 per cent.

Meanwhile, Kerala, West Bengal, Maharashtra, Punjab and Uttar Pradesh have counted 66 per cent of the total daily fatalities. On the positive front, the most-awaited mass vaccination drive kick-started on January 16, with the approval of two COVID vaccines.
