Girls can get admission to more Sainik schools

ST CORRESPONDENT

PUNE: The Ministry of Defence (MoD) has given the go-ahead to five more Sainik schools including one in Maharashtra to admit girls.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, in October, had approved the proposal for admission of girls in Sainik schools for academic session 2021-22 in a phased manner.

The decision was taken following the success of the pilot project for admission of girls in Sainik School, Chhingchhip in Mizoram two years ago.

The MoD has directed concerned authorities to ensure availability of necessary infrastructure and sufficient female staffers in Sainik schools for smooth implementation of the directive.

According to MoD officials, the decision is in line with the objective of the government towards greater inclusiveness, gender equality and enabling greater participation of women in armed forces.

Now the online registration is open for girls for admissions to Class VI in five Sainik schools for the academic session 2020-21. The schools are located in Chandrapur (Maharashtra), Bijapur (Karnataka), Kodagu (Karnataka), Kalikiri (Andhra Pradesh) and Ghorakhal (Uttarakhand).

The online application form is available at www.sainikschooladmission.in. Model question papers are also available on the website. The last date of registration is December 6 and the examination will be held on January 5, 2020.
