Lucknow: After booked by Pune Police, an FIR under multiple charges such as sedition, has been registered against former Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) student Sharjeel Usmani in Lucknow. The case has been filed at Hazratganj police station in connection with his speech at the recently concluded Elgaar Parishad in Pune.

The FIR was registered by the complainant Anuraj Singh, who told police that he found a video of the speech on Internet. He has accused the former AMU student of ‘creating hate’ against the Yogi Adityanath government, endorsing enmity among groups, conspiring against the government and hurting religious sentiments.

As per the details, the FIR has been registered under IPC sections 124 A (sedition), 153 A (promoting enmity between different groups), 295 A (deliberate and malicious acts intended to outrage religious feelings) and 298 (uttering words with deliberate intent to wound the religious feelings).

On Tuesday, a case was registered against Sharjeel in Pune in connection with his speech at the Elgar Parishad. According to Pune police, a case under section 153 (A) of the IPC (promoting enmity between different groups on the ground religion, etc) was registered against him.

Meanwhile, Maharashtra Home Minister Anil Deshmukh has assured that Sharjeel Usmai will be nabbed from whichever state he is in. Also, Maharashtra BJP Chief Chandrakant Patil had drafted a letter to Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath seeking his help in arresting him.
