COVID-19 second wave: These 11 states in India are under complete lockdown

While many states have opted for partial lockdown or lockdown-like restriction, these 11 states have imposed a full lockdown.

As India continues to reel under a devastating second wave of COVID-19, several states and union territories have imposed a full lockdown to curb the spread of infections. While some states including Maharashtra, Gujarat, Andhra Pradesh, Jharkhan and West Bengal have opted for a partial lockdown or lockdown-like curbs, few other states has imposed a full-fleged lockdown.

The country is still reporting worrying trends as 14 states are still reporting Covid cases in five figures and 24 states showing more than a 15 per cent positivity rate in the last seven day.

On Friday, India recorded more than 4 lakh new COVID-19 cases with 4,172 fatalities, the highest since the beginning of the pandemic last year. India's Coronavirus caseload has reached 2.18 crore with more than 37 lakh active cases.

Here’s a list of states and union territories that have imposed a complete lockdown

1. Karanataka

BJP government in Karnataka have imposed a total lockdown after the state clocked more than 45,000 Covid cases daily last week. Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa announced a full lockdown in the state from May 10 to May 24.

On Friday, Karnataka reported a record 592 deaths and 50,000 new infections, of which 346 deaths and more than 21,000 cases were found in Bengaluru alone. The total active cases across the state reached 5.36 lakh.

2. Rajasthan

The Rajasthan government has also imposed a statewide lockdown from May 10 to May 24.

Rajasthan on Friday registered 18,231 fresh coronavirus cases, pushing the infection count to 7,20,799. The death toll surged to 5,346 as 164 more lives were lost in the 24 hours.

3. Tamil Nadu

Just a day after coming into power, the newly formed DMK government on Saturday announced clamping a two-week total lockdown across the state to curb the spread of the pandemic. The lockdown will be enforced from 4 am on May 10 to May 24.

Tamil Nadu witnessing a sharp increase in the covid-19 cases since law a few weeks. The states recorded their highest single-day spike of over 26,000 new cases on Friday.

4. Kerala

After a massive increase in the toll due to COVID-19, Kerala will go into a full lockdown from today, May 8 to May 16. Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan had earlier made this announcement on Thursday to break the chain of transmission in the state.

Kerala added 38,460 new cases on Friday after testing 1,44,346 samples with test positivity ratio rising to 26.06 per cent and active case pool to 4,02,646. The state reported 54 deaths in the last 24 hours.

5. Bihar

The Bihar government on Tuesday, May 4, imposed a total lockdown in the state till May 15 in light of the surge in coronavirus cases. The decision was taken after the Patna High Court directed the government to announce a lockdown in the state.

Bihar reported 13,466 new Covid cases on Friday taking the total number of active cases in the state to 1,15, 066. A total of 67 fatalities were recorded in the last 24 hours.

6. Madhya Pradesh

The Madhya Pradesh government has announced a complete lockdown in the state till May 15 to bring under control the coronavirus surge that has overwhelmed health infrastructures. While announcing the lockdown, Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan said the state can't remain open with an 18 per cent case positivity rate.

On Friday, Madhya Pradesh reported 11,708 coronavirus cases and 84 fatalities in 24 hours. The number of active cases in the state is 95,423.

7. Odisha

Odisha has enforced a state-wide lockdown in an attempt to put a brake on rising COVID-19 cases in the state. The 14-day-long lockdown began on May 5 and will continue till May 19.

Odisha added 12,238 new cases on Friday, taking the total number of active cases in the state to 78,546.

8. Delhi

Delhi has been constantly reporting a high number of Covid-19 cases. Earlier in the week, Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal has extended the complete lockdown till May 10. Delhi is under lockdown since April 19.

On Friday, Delhi reported 19,832 new infections while 341 people died in the last 24 hours.

9. Himachal Pradesh

The state government on Wednesday, May 6, announced a total lockdown from May 7 to May 16 to curb the spread of COVId-19 cases.

Himachal Pradesh crossed the 4,000 marks in daily COVID-19 cases on Friday, the highest surge in the daily count since the beginning of the pandemic.

10. Mizoram

Mizoram government has announced a seven-day complete lockdown in the state to stem the spread of the virus. The lockdown will kick in at 4 am on May 10 (Monday) and continue till 4 am on May 17.

Mizoram on Friday reported 235 new Covid-19 positive cases and the state now has 1,906 active cases of Covid-19.

11. Haryana

After a rapid rise in Coronavirus cases, Haryana was put under a seven-day long lockdown from May 3. The lockdown will remain in force in the state till 5 am on May 10.
