Pune: The Divisional Police Complaint Authority has initiated an inquiry and ordered action against beat officer Mohan Thombre and the in-charge police inspector at Walchandnagar police station for failing to register a serious complaint, thus neglecting their duties.
Sunil Mohan Khartode of Kalas (Indapur Taluka) filed a complaint against beat officer Mohan Thombre with the Police Complaint Authority, stating his grievances. The authority, after hearing the arguments from both the complainant and the respondent, delivered this decision.
In 2021, Sunil Khartode had a dispute with a relative on the road. During the altercation, while Khartode was riding his motorcycle, a tempo hit him, causing significant damage to the motorcycle and injuring him.
While undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Baramati, Khartode demanded that a case of attempted murder be registered against the tempo owner and the relative involved in the dispute, as they were friends.
However, Khartode alleged that beat officer Mohan Thombre, after accepting a bribe, avoided registering the complaint.
The authority, after hearing both sides, found that the tempo was a four-wheeler and the collision with the motorcycle was a serious matter. Therefore, it was necessary to register the complaint as per Khartode's statement. However, beat officer Thombre neglected this duty.
Additionally, the in-charge police inspector at that time was also held equally responsible. Administrative officer S. J. Kharat of the Divisional Police Complaint Authority has ordered a thorough departmental inquiry and appropriate action against the guilty parties.
