Pune: A landmark research initiative aimed at revolutionizing diabetes management was recently launched through a collaboration between the Maharashtra University of Health Sciences (MUHS), Nashik, the Chellaram Diabetes Institute (CDI), Pune, and the All India Institute of Ayurveda, Delhi.
The project focuses on exploring the integration of Ayurveda with allopathic medicine to develop comprehensive treatment solutions for diabetes.
The collaboration is part of a broader effort to merge traditional and modern medical practices, examining how Ayurvedic therapies can complement allopathic treatments.
The initiative also seeks to create a holistic model that could address not just diabetes but other non-communicable diseases as well.
The formal launch took place at an event hosted by CDI in Pune, with key figures like Lt. Gen. Dr. Madhuri Kanitkar (Retd.), Vice Chancellor of MUHS, and Dr. Unnikrishnan A.G., CEO of CDI, emphasizing the need for interdisciplinary collaboration.
Dr. Kanitkar remarked, “The growing diabetes burden in India requires a breaking down of barriers between different medical disciplines to find effective solutions.”
Dr. Unnikrishnan A.G. added, “This integrative approach could open new pathways for the treatment of diabetes and other chronic illnesses. It represents a bold step forward in health care.”
The collaborative research team will study how Ayurveda, with its personalized treatment models, can be incorporated into the management of diabetes, alongside modern medicine.
Dr. Milind Nikumbh, Pro-Vice Chancellor of MUHS, noted, “Ayurveda's individualized care system holds significant potential for complementing conventional treatments.”
