Bengaluru: Chief Justice of India (CJI) Dhananjaya Yeshwant Chandrachud laid the foundation stone for the redevelopment and expansion of the core Academic Block at the National Law School of India University (NLSIU).
The facility, to be named the JSW Academic Block, will feature modern infrastructure to support cutting-edge legal education and research.
The comprehensive redevelopment plan involves transforming the existing structure into a multi-storey academic building that will house advanced lecture theatres, seminar rooms, faculty offices, and collaborative research spaces.
Funded through a substantial grant from the JSW Group, the project is part of a larger initiative to modernize NLSIU’s academic infrastructure.
In addition to upgrading the Academic Block, the grant will support the creation of the ‘JSW Centre for the Future of Law,’ a premier research facility focused on addressing challenges posed by technological advancements in the legal domain.
The Centre will lead research on emerging issues such as artificial intelligence, digital privacy, and automation, while fostering collaboration among academia, government agencies, regulatory bodies, and the private sector.

Sangita Jindal, Chairperson of the JSW Foundation, emphasized the long-term vision of the project. “Our investment in NLSIU aims to create an environment where students are not only academically equipped but also empowered to address societal challenges,” she said.
Parth Jindal, Managing Director of JSW Cement and JSW Paints, underscored the importance of technological innovation in the legal field.
“Technology is rapidly transforming the legal landscape, from AI-powered contract analysis to automation in litigation. The JSW Centre for the Future of Law will ensure that NLSIU stays ahead of these trends, preparing future legal professionals to engage with and regulate these emerging technologies,” he said.
