Pune: Persistent heavy rains in the Pavana Dam area have led to a significant increase in the dam's water levels, reaching 72% capacity by noon today (July 25).

The dam is now discharging 1,400 cusecs of water to manage the influx. The Pavana Dam Flood Control Room has indicated that the discharge rate will be adjusted as needed. Residents along the riverbanks have been alerted to stay cautious.

The intense rainfall, ongoing for the past two days, has resulted in water flooding the dam at a rapid pace. At 6 a.m. today, the water level was at 67.80%, but it surged to 72% by noon. With the continuous rain, further discharges from the dam are likely to ensure safety and manage water levels.

In the Chinchwad area, heavy rains have caused river water to enter Tanaji Nagar and Lakshmi Nagar. Approximately 150 residents of Lakshmi Nagar have been relocated to safer areas.

Similarly, residents from five societies near Tanaji Nagar and Podar School have also been evacuated due to the rising water levels.

Pavana Dam engineers have issued warnings to all residents along the river to avoid entering the riverbed and to relocate any agricultural equipment or livestock from the riverbanks.

Upper regions of Pavana dam have received 15 inches of rain. Overflow water from Mulshi Dam and other dams in Maval Taluka may also contribute to the situation.

Low-lying area residents have been advised to take all necessary precautions. The engineers emphasize the importance of exercising proper caution during this period of intense rainfall.
