Pune: In a bid to promote an eco-friendly Ganeshotsav, the Shri Shankar Maharaj Seva Mandal in Chinchwad has continued its unique initiative, "Our Idol, Your Price."

This program, now in its 11th year, allows devotees to choose from a range of eco-friendly Ganesh idols and contribute any amount they wish as a donation.

The funds collected from this initiative will be used to support 'Snehasavali - Aapla Ghar,' an old age home in Charholi, which offers free care to the elderly in need.

The eco-friendly Ganesh idol exhibition titled "Our Idol, Your Price" started on August 24th at Chinchwade Lawns in Chinchwadgaon, Chapekar Chowk, and will continue until September 7.

The exhibition is open from 9 AM to 9 PM daily. A total of 3,000 eco-friendly idols in 59 different designs and sizes have been crafted for this initiative, with sizes ranging from six inches to two feet.

These idols, made without the use of Plaster of Paris or any chemical colors, are created using natural materials like turmeric, vermilion, traditional colors, ocher, and Shadu clay.

The Shri Shankar Maharaj Seva Mandal has been conducting this initiative for ten years, and this year marks its 11th year.

Devotees visit the exhibition, select the Ganesh idol of their choice, and contribute to the various activities of the organization by donating an amount they deem fit.

According to the organization's president, Dr. Avinash Vaidya, the community's trust in the proper use of the collected funds is the reason behind the initiative's widespread success.

Dr. Manali Vaidya stated that the funds collected are used to run the old age home. The organization also produces cloth bags to protect the environment and has organized over 1,800 blood donation camps. Additionally, the organization has helped many students with their higher education.
