Parents Protest Over Illegal Admissions in Pune’s Top Educational Institutions

Shivraj Sanas

Pune: Parents in the Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad region are protesting against what they claim are widespread violations in the admissions process at several well-known educational institutions.

These institutions are alleged to have admitted students to vacant seats after the Centralized Admission Process (CAP) rounds and at the institute level, bypassing regulations set by the Directorate of Technical Education (DTE).

Concerned parents have taken their complaints to the Pune Divisional Office of the DTE, calling for an investigation into these irregularities.

The issue came to light when several parents, frustrated by the handling of the admissions process, confronted Deputy Director of Technical Education, Dattatray Jadhav.

They alleged that students with lower academic scores were given admission over more deserving candidates with higher percentile scores.

Some parents reported that their children, despite having scores in the range of 90-95 percentiles and having completed all required documentation, were denied admission in favor of others.

It was also revealed that several institutions had employed intimidating tactics, such as using bouncers to threaten parents, while others canceled student admissions based on technicalities, such as the language of the SEBC certificate.

Kalpesh Yadav, Deputy Secretary of Yuva Sena (UBT) warned that failure to cancel these admissions would result in legal action.

Yadav emphasized that numerous complaints had already been submitted to both the CET Cell and the DTE regarding these unlawful practices, but no effective action had been taken.

Officials from the Deputy Director’s Office in Pune assured that a detailed report on the irregularities would be prepared and submitted to the State Common Entrance Test Cell by September 30. This report will include details of the institutions involved in the illegal admissions process.
