PCMC Commissioner Urges Structural Audits, Safety Certifications for Hotel Buildings

Owners should conduct 'structural audit' of their buildings from citizen safety perspective, and obtain business fire safety, electrical safety NOCs.

Pune: In a recent meeting with hotel business owners, Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Commissioner Shekhar Singh emphasized the importance of conducting structural audits of commercial buildings within the next month.

Singh highlighted the necessity for hotels, restaurants, and bars to obtain fire safety and electrical safety no-objection certificates from the municipal corporation to ensure the safety of citizens.

The meeting was attended by Additional Commissioner Pradeep Jambhale-Patil, City Engineer Makarand Nikam, Deputy Commissioner Sandeep Khot, Anna Bodade, Executive Engineer Harvinder Singh Bansal, Fire Officer Rishikesh Chipade, and representatives of various hotel associations.

Deputy Commissioner Manoj Lonkar provided information on fire safety systems to be implemented in hotels. There is a significant number of commercial buildings, including hotels, restaurants, and bars, in the city.

The owners should conduct a 'structural audit' of their buildings from the perspective of citizen safety. They should obtain business fire safety certificates and electrical safety no-objection certificates, said Commissioner Singh.

In the coming days, all hotels, bars, restaurants, hospitals, and commercial buildings in the city will be surveyed. Strict action will be taken against establishments found to be at fault during the survey. If illegal businesses are operating, all their licenses will be canceled, he warned.

The municipal corporation has set up a project in Moshi to produce CNG gas by processing hotel waste into CNG. For this, hotel owners, banquet hall operators, restaurants, messes, and canteen operators should segregate 100 per cent of wet waste and dispose of it in special vehicles designated for wet waste collection, appealed Commissioner Singh.
