Pimpri-Swargate metro line has become a popular choice for passengers, with the Pune Metro administration reporting that 350,000 people used the service in just the first five days of October.

The route, spanning 17.5 kilometers and covering 14 stations, allows passengers to travel between Pimpri and Swargate in just 35 minutes for a fare of ₹30. This combination of speed and affordability has been a major draw for daily commuters.

Adding to the appeal of the service is the recently opened underground metro route connecting the District Court to Swargate, a 3.5 km stretch featuring three stations.

This section of the metro was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on 29th September via an online event. Its opening has further streamlined travel for passengers, allowing for seamless transit across the entire metro network.

The impact of the new metro route has been evident from the surge in passenger numbers. On 30th September alone, over 71,500 passengers traveled on the Pimpri to District Court route, up from 44,800 before the full service launch.

The Vanaz to Ramwadi metro line, in comparison, saw a smaller but steady increase of around 5,000 passengers.

The metro service’s success is also reflected in the revenue figures. In the first week of October, the metro generated a total revenue of ₹5.6 million, with daily ridership consistently exceeding expectations.

To accommodate the growing number of passengers, the metro administration has announced plans to increase the frequency of trains during peak hours on both the PCMC to Swargate and Vanaz to Ramwadi routes.

Trains will now operate every 10 minutes during off-peak hours (6 AM to 8 AM, 11 AM to 4 PM, and 8 PM to 10 PM), while during peak times (8 AM to 11 AM and 4 PM to 8 PM), trains will run every seven minutes.
