Pedestrian Robberies: 4 Pune Residents Targeted by Motorcycle Thieves

Pune: There has been a noticeable rise in incidents of pedestrians being robbed in the city. Areas like Swargate, Bibwewadi, and Market Yard have witnessed multiple occurrences of thieves snatching mobile phones and jewelry from pedestrians.

In the first incident, on Tuesday (16th) around 4:15 PM, a young man was stopped and robbed at Giridhar Bhavan Chowk. The thieves took his mobile phone and important documents. Sanjay Tukaram Kangude (34) reported the incident to Swargate Police Station.

The complainant, a resident of Kothrud, was passing through Giridhar Bhavan Chowk when two men on a motorcycle approached him, threatened him, and made off with his mobile phone worth Rs. 17,000 and a bag containing documents.

In the second incident, at Lakshminarayan Chowk in Swargate, near Sable House to Katraj Road area, a senior woman pedestrian had her gold chain worth Rs. 17,400 snatched by motorcycle-riding thieves.

Imalabai Maganlal Oswal (72, a resident of Shukrawar Peth) lodged a complaint at Swargate Police Station. Police Sub-Inspector Ashok Yewale is investigating both cases.

In the third incident, a woman walking with her husband in the Sukhsagarnagar area of Upper Indiranagar had her gold mangalsutra worth Rs. 1.75 lakhs snatched by thieves on a motorcycle.

Vaishali Satish Ghawane (45, a resident of Sukhsagar Nagar) reported the incident to Bibwewadi Police Station. Assistant Police Inspector Praveen Kalokhe is handling the investigation.

In the fourth incident, in the Bibwewadi area, two men on a motorcycle approached a 52-year-old woman under the pretense of asking for directions. They then forcibly snatched her mangalsutra worth Rs. 35,000 and fled.

Sangita Govind Salgaral (a resident of Bibwewadi) filed a complaint at Market Yard Police Station, and Assistant Police Inspector Kamble is leading the investigation.

The police are urging residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to help curb the rising number of robberies.
