Permanent Relocation for Flood-Affected Riverside Residents, Promises CM Shinde

Recent floods of Pavana, Indrayani, Mula rivers in Pimpri-Chinchwad led to evacuation of residents from areas including Madhuban and Mulanagar.

Pune: In response to the recurrent flooding of the Mula and Pavana rivers that forces annual relocations of riverside residents, Chief Minister Eknath Shinde has promised a permanent solution.

He assured flood-affected citizens that they would be relocated to a safer, permanent residence to end their yearly displacement.

The recent floods of the Pavana, Indrayani, and Mula rivers in Pimpri-Chinchwad led to the evacuation of over a thousand residents from areas including Madhuban and Mulanagar.

On Monday, August 5, Chief Minister Shinde visited the families relocated to the shelter at Punyashlok Ahilyadevi Holkar School. He inspected the flood-affected areas, accompanied by Deputy Chairperson of the Legislative Council Neelam Gorhe, MP Shrirang Barne, MLA Ashwini Jagtap, Municipal Commissioner Shekhar Singh, BJP City President Shankar Jagtap, and former Mayor Usha Dhore.

Chief Minister Shinde interacted with the flood victims, inquiring about their annual displacement during the monsoon, the number of people relocated, and whether they received all necessary facilities and meals from the municipal corporation.

He asked for suggestions on tackling the crisis, receiving responses such as building a boundary wall and demands for permanent rehabilitation. He assured the residents that a permanent solution involving their relocation to a safer area would be implemented to end their yearly displacement due to floods.

The Chief Minister's visit included stops in flood-affected areas such as Sangvi in Pimpri-Chinchwad and Patil Estate in Shivajinagar before heading towards Sinhagad Road.
