Pune: In a major infrastructural boost to Pimple Saudagar, the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) has given the green light for the development and modernization of the stretch from Shivaar Chowk to Govind Garden Chowk (Kunal Icon Road).
The decision, taken in a recent standing committee meeting, comes with an approved budget of ₹55 crore aimed at addressing the traffic congestion in the rapidly expanding residential and commercial neighborhood.
The project will focus on widening the road to 18 meters and 12 meters and modernizing it to align with urban design standards.
Given that Kunal Icon Road serves as a key connector between major routes like Wakad-Nashik Phata Road, the old Mumbai-Pune highway, and the Mumbai-Bengaluru highway, this development is crucial for improving the overall traffic flow in the city.
The civic body has prioritized the project for quick implementation, with the aim of completing it within 30 months. Once finished, the project is expected to significantly ease traffic congestion in the bustling area of Pimple Saudagar, providing much-needed relief to daily commuters.
Focus on Pedestrian Safety and Urban Design The PCMC’s plan also incorporates several features designed to improve the road's usability for pedestrians and cyclists. Special attention will be given to building safe pedestrian walkways and providing dedicated spaces for parking.
Drainage systems will be upgraded to ensure the smooth flow of rainwater, and separate pipelines for water supply, drainage, and optic fiber cables (OFC) will be laid. Additionally, street lights and proper signage will be installed to enhance safety and navigation.
Environmental and Time-Saving Benefits
The project is expected to offer several benefits, including reducing travel time, saving fuel, and promoting an eco-friendly atmosphere. With improved infrastructure, the road will also contribute to reducing air pollution, making the area more sustainable for residents.
PCMC Commissioner Shekhar Singh emphasized the PCMC's commitment to completing this project efficiently to meet the growing demands of the area.
“We are determined to finish this project within the stipulated time and ensure that residents benefit from a modern, safe, and efficient road system,” Singh said.
