Pune: A recent review of the Pimpri Assembly constituency voter list has uncovered a significant issue, with around 7,000 duplicate voters identified.

Former Municipal Corporator Seema Sawale has brought attention to the matter, pointing out that these individuals have been issued duplicate voter ID cards.

Sawale has demanded the immediate removal of these names from the voter list to ensure the integrity of the upcoming Assembly elections.

For the upcoming Assembly elections, the Election Department prepared a draft voter list for the Pimpri Assembly constituency, which was published on August 6, 2024.

The last date for objections and suggestions regarding the list was August 19. Sawale stated that the review of the list revealed significant errors.

Some voters were registered two, three, or even four times and were issued separate voter ID cards with different numbers, raising doubts about the entire electoral process.

In the draft list, some voters' names were recorded multiple times. These voters have also been issued duplicate voter ID cards. Additionally, some voters' names were registered in other nearby constituencies, where they too were issued duplicate voter ID cards.

Sawale has demanded that the names of these duplicate voters be immediately removed from the voter list.

Responding to the objections, Voter Registration Officer Vinod Jalak said that an investigation into the matter would be conducted, and appropriate action would be taken afterward.

The final voter list is scheduled for release on August 30. Voters will have the opportunity to register until ten days before the nomination period for the assembly elections.
