Pune: As the Legislative Assembly elections approach, the Election Commission has initiated a special summary revision program across key constituencies, leading to a significant increase in voter registrations.

The draft voter list, released on August 6 by the District Collector's office, reveals that Pimpri, Chinchwad, and Bhosari constituencies have added a substantial number of new voters in recent months.

From February to July 2024, a total of 67,767 new voters were registered, with an additional 20,372 voters joining the rolls in June and July, following the Lok Sabha elections held earlier this year.

This brings the total voter count in the Chinchwad constituency to 627,437, solidifying its position as the area with the highest voter base in the region. The overall voter population in the city now stands at 1,563,647.

The Election Commission's summary revision program, which was set in motion in anticipation of the Assembly elections expected to be announced in September or October, has been instrumental in updating voter lists. Voters have been invited to raise objections to the draft list and make necessary corrections through the prescribed forms.

The Lok Sabha elections, conducted on May 13, 2024, had a voter count of 1,543,275, with an additional 47,395 voters registered during the revision program that started in January. However, the new data reveals an even higher number of voters, reflecting continued population growth and mobility within the city.

The draft voter list has also highlighted issues such as duplicate entries and mismatched photos on voter ID cards, prompting the Election Commission to encourage citizens to report inaccuracies.

The final voter list is expected soon, with ongoing efforts to accommodate new registrations and corrections, leading to a supplementary list for the upcoming elections.
