Pune: After years of anticipation, an independent plot has finally been allocated for the Pimpri-Chinchwad court at Chikhali Pradhikaran.
The groundbreaking ceremony for the new court building took place three months ago, and further developments are on track with the approval of an Additional Sessions Court and a Senior-Level Court by the District and Sessions Court.
With Pimpri-Chinchwad’s population now exceeding 3 million, the city’s judicial needs have grown significantly. Since the establishment of an independent police commissionerate in 2018, new police stations have been added, and the number of cases has increased.
The former court building in Morwadi became inadequate, prompting a temporary shift of court operations to Nehrunagar. However, the long-standing demand for an independent court building, as well as District and Sessions Courts, is now being addressed.
The new court complex will handle a variety of cases, including family and domestic disputes concerning women, criminal cases, large monetary claims, and other pending cases from Pimpri that previously had to be filed at the Pune District Court.
Appeals will also be handled locally, significantly easing the burden on citizens who otherwise had to travel to Pune for legal matters.
Bhosari MLA Mahesh Landge said, "The new court complex will benefit not only residents of Pimpri-Chinchwad but also those in nearby rural areas. In 2011, a 16-acre plot in Sector 14, Moshi-Borhadewadi, was earmarked for the construction of the court.
The approved plans include a nine-story building with accommodations for judges. The long-delayed project is now moving forward, and court operations are expected to commence soon."
