Pimpri Chinchwad Crime Branch Unit 1 arrested a man in Bhosari for possession of illegal drugs, including charas and mephedrone (MD), which he intended to sell.

The arrested individual has been identified as 26-year-old Zaheer Kadir Khan, a resident of Bhagyodayanagar in Kondhwa, near Jama Masjid. Khan, originally from Asifiya Colony in Sambhajinagar, was apprehended after a tip-off led the police to his location.

Pimpri Chinchwad Crime Branch Unit 1, which was conducting routine checks on criminals with prior records during the Ganesh festival, received information about a suspicious individual loitering in the Devkar Vasti area of Bhosari.

Acting on this intelligence input, police officers set up surveillance on the road from Banachavadi to Chakrapani Vasahat, where they spotted Khan.

When Khan noticed the police, he attempted to flee the scene but was quickly caught by officers. Upon searching him, the police recovered 13 grams of mephedrone (MD), 9 grams of charas, and two mobile phones. The total value of the seized items is estimated at ₹4,09,250.

Police Constable Mahadev Gajendra Jaware from Crime Branch Unit 1 has filed a formal complaint, and the investigation is currently being led by Sub-Inspector Kendre.

The drugs were seized, and Khan was taken into custody for further interrogation. The police are also investigating the possibility of a larger drug network connected to Khan.

The arrest comes as part of the Pimpri Chinchwad police’s increased vigilance during the Ganesh festival, where additional efforts have been made to track down known criminals and curb illegal activities in the city.
