Pune: Dighi police have booked the Vrindavan building owner on negligence charges in the case related to death of a three-and-a-half-year-old girl, who succumbed to injuries after the society iron gate fell on her.

The deceased girl had been identified as Girija Ganesh Shinde. Her father Ganesh Shinde has filed a complaint against the Vrindavan building owner in this regard at Dighi police station.

The builder owners have been identified as Srinivasulu Sandhireddy and his mother. The owners have been booked under section 106 of the Bhartiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) 2023.

The BNS section 106 states, "whoever causes death of any person by doing any rash or negligent act not amounting to culpable homicide shall be punished with imprisonment of either description for a term which may extend to five years, and shall also be liable to fine."

Dighi police have charged the owners with negligence due to the lack of safety measures on the iron gate. Despite the charges, the accused have not yet been arrested.

According to police, in the tragic accident Girija was fatally injured by a falling iron gate. The incident occurred in Ganesh Nagar Lane No. 2, where four young children were playing near the gate.

Girija and a friend were outside the gate while two other children were inside. The children inside pulled the gate, causing it to move forward and fall on Girija, who suffered severe injuries and died on the spot. The absence of a stopper on the gate has been cited as the cause of the accident.
