Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation Launches Bamboo Plantation Drive

Environmental benefits of bamboo trees include their ability to produce large amounts of oxygen, purify air, prevent soil erosion.

Pune: In a significant move towards greening the city and establishing bio-fences, the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) has pledged to plant one lakh bamboo saplings.

This ambitious bamboo plantation initiative was recently inaugurated by Commissioner and Administrator Shekhar Singh, who ceremoniously planted the first saplings.

During the event, attendees took a solemn oath, committing themselves to keeping India and the planet clean and beautiful. They pledged to avoid actions harmful to the environment and to plant trees extensively to ensure a clean, green, and pollution-free country.

The Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation's garden and tree conservation department organized the planting of Manvel species bamboo saplings at Bird Valley on Telco Road, Chinchwad.

The event saw the participation of Additional Commissioner Pradip Jambhale Patil, Deputy Commissioner Ravikiran Ghodke, Special Officer Kiran Gaikwad, former council members Anuradha Gorkhe and Kamal Gholap, and public relations officer Prafull Puranik, among other officials and staff.

PCMC Commissioner Shekhar Singh highlighted the numerous environmental benefits of bamboo trees, including their ability to produce large amounts of oxygen, purify the air, prevent soil erosion, and maintain ecological balance.
