Pimpri: The recent growth in residential projects within 18 villages integrated into the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation in 1997 has led to a significant increase in both population and voter count in these areas.
As a result, the total voter base in Pimpri, Chinchwad, and Bhosari Assembly constituencies has risen to 1,643,957, with the Chinchwad and Bhosari constituencies experiencing the highest growth.
Consequently, both constituencies have added more polling stations to accommodate the increase.
Following the 2008 constituency reorganization, the Chinchwad, Pimpri, and Bhosari Assembly constituencies were established.
The Chinchwad constituency includes Wakad, Punawale, Ravet, Kiwale, Mamurdi, and Pimpri Nilakh. Bhosari covers areas like Talwade, Chikhali, Moshi, Dudulgaon, and Dighi, while Bopkhel was added to the Pimpri constituency.
While development plans were approved after these villages joined the corporation, implementation was delayed, and agriculture remained prevalent.
Over time, however, large housing projects, roads, and amenities began to develop, drawing in residents seeking affordable housing compared to Pune, Pimpri, and Chinchwad, thus pushing the voter count to new highs.
Chinchwad Leads with Highest Voter Count in Pune District
With a voter base now exceeding 655,000, Chinchwad is the largest constituency in Pune district, followed by Bhosari in third place.
Both constituencies now have more than 600,000 voters each, double the counts in Kasba, Cantonment, and Shivajinagar constituencies in Pune.
Significant Growth in Chinchwad’s Voter Base
In the 2019 elections, Chinchwad had 516,836 registered voters. After a by-election following MLA Laxman Jagtap’s death in August 2023, the voter base increased by nearly 50,000, reaching 566,415. It now stands at 655,106.
Tathawade Added to Bhor-Velhe Constituency
As part of the constituency reorganization, Tathawade village, now within the municipal corporation, falls under the Bhor-Velhe constituency. From 9,000 voters in the 2019 election, Tathawade’s voter base has grown to over 15,000 in five years due to new residential developments.
Maval Constituency Records 3.83 Lakh Voters
The Maval constituency has registered 383,328 voters as of October 15, comprising 196,188 male, 187,127 female, and 13 transgender voters.
