Pimpri Police Accused of Negligence with Hour-Long Delay in Hit-and-Run FIR

Pune: Sharanya Saurabh Tiwari, daughter of the 56-year-old pedestrian woman who was hit by a speeding car in Pimpri, has criticized Pimpri police for their delayed response in filing the complaint against the driver.

Sharanya recounted that her husband Saurabh initially went to the Pimpri police station to report the accident, but the police refused to take the complaint, insisting that a blood relative must file it. When she went to the station at 5:30 PM, the police ignored her for an hour before finally accepting the complaint.

Sharanya's mother Vijaya Kumar Nayar (56) is a teacher and teaches Malayalam language to children every Sunday. She was buying bananas from a roadside vendor on Sunday at 1:30 PM when a speeding car hit her.

Following the accident, the driver, later identified as Harish Jalinder Waghmare, continued driving and collided with a rickshaw and a two-wheeler before fleeing the scene. Local citizens rushed Nayar to Jijamata Hospital in Pimpri for initial treatment before she was transferred to a private hospital due to serious head injuries.

While speaking to mediapersons, Sharanya Tiwari said, "The accident involving my mother happened at 1:30 PM. I was at the hospital with my mother, so my husband went to the police station to file the complaint.

However, the police insisted that a blood relative should file the complaint, and hence, it was not taken. When I went to file the complaint at 5:30 PM, the police initially ignored me. Later, they became irritated while speaking. It was only after about an hour that my complaint was finally taken."

The police, after reviewing CCTV footage, quickly identified the vehicle and arrested Waghmare, who was hiding in Pimpri. Senior Police Inspector Ashok Kadlag confirmed that a case has been registered and the driver is now in custody.
