Pimpri: The sports complex and ground located at Mahatma Phule College and Navmaharashtra School in Pimpri have been left in a state of disrepair, causing significant challenges for students and local players.
The lack of maintenance has made it difficult for students to carry out regular drills and participate in sports activities, and many are calling on the municipal corporation to act swiftly.
The ground, the largest in the Pimpri area, is a hub for many athletes from neighboring villages. It is also regularly used by school students for physical activities.
However, over the past two months, the ground has become hazardous, with large stones scattered across the field. This has caused unnecessary inconvenience for students, players, and even senior citizens who visit the area for walks. Minor injuries have been reported among walkers due to the unsafe conditions.
Despite temporary repairs made by the municipal corporation for the Ravana effigy burning event a few days ago, the overall condition of the ground remains poor. Students and residents are urging the municipal authorities to conduct permanent repairs at the earliest.
Deepak Rokade, President of the Navbharat Youth Development Foundation, expressed concern over the deteriorating state of the ground, saying, "The poor condition of the ground is affecting both players and sports activities. Students and athletes are at risk of injury, and the administration needs to ensure proper upkeep of the field."
In response, Kishore Nanavare, G Ward Officer, assured the public that the issue would be addressed promptly. "Instructions will be given to the concerned officers to resolve this matter immediately. While temporary repairs were made for the Ravana effigy burning ceremony, swift action will be taken to address the local community's concerns," he stated.
